AcidSpider® Frequently Asked Questions
  • Q: How do I register?
A: All Red Mercury products are free to try for a limited number of days. If you would like to purchase a full version that will not expire, you can register AcidSpider by purchasing a 14-digit UnlockCode at the Red Mercury store. After you submit your order online, you will receive your UnlockCode via email.
  • Q: What is an UnlockCode?
A: After you buy a Red Mercury game, you will receive an UnlockCode via email within a few minutes of ordering. Your UnlockCode is a 14-digit code that looks like this: 3981 12C9 DB02 A4. Enter this code on the Register screen of the game, and you will then be able to play for an unlimited time.

  • Q: My UnlockCode doesn't work, or I lost it, or something.
A: Check out the UnlockCode Wizard, it is very useful for this type of thing.

  • Q: What is the goal of AcidSpider?
A: The goal of AcidSpider is to move all 104 cards to the eight home cells in the upper right of the playfield.

Group cards by suit, in descending order (King through Ace). Once you've made a complete stack of cards, King through Ace, the cards can move to a home cell. Individual cards can't move to the home cells on their own. There are 104 cards in AcidSpider - more that one deck.

AcidSpider includes a quick step-by-step demo that will show you how to play. Select "Show me how to play" from the main menu.

  • Q: Are all games winnable?
A: All games in AcidSpider are winnable. They may not be easy, but they can be won. If you've got one you think is unwinnable, let us know and we'll post the game number to see if anyone can get it.

  • Q: What are Sparkle HintsTM?
A: Sparkle Hints, one part of the IntelliMoveTM system, highlight the best possible moves. Cycle through all the Sparkle Hints until you find a move you like. You can use your 5-way navigator to view all Sparkle Hints or request a Sparkle Hint from the drop down menu.

  • Q: What is EZ PlayTM?
A: EZ Play is intuitive, single handed game play using your 5-way navigator. Press left or right on the 5-way navigator to show possible moves. Press the center to move selected cards. Press up to undo moves. Press down to request a Sparkle Hint.

  • Q: I can't win this game. How do I start a new one?
A: Tap the Menu icon in the lower-left hand corner of the Graffiti area, or tap the yellow Menu icon in the top-center of the playfield.

  • Q: Some of the cool visual effects aren't working for me.
A: Many cool features, like JPEG backgrounds and translucent cards, are only available on handhelds with Palm OS 5 or higher. Older handhelds don't have enough processing power to handle the new features, but the game still works great (and fast) on older devices with Palm OS 4 or earlier.

  • Q: I've downloaded the background packs and the images are tiled.
A: You need to download the hi-res backgrounds available here:
Hi-res backgrounds for OS 5+ handhelds
    Hi-res backgrounds for older handhelds

  • Q: Can I make my own backgrounds for AcidSpider?
A: JPEG images on your memory card or stored in RAM can be used as backgrounds. You can install JPEGs onto your memory card using the Palm Install Tool or Quick Install.

Once the JPEGs are on your memory card AcidSpider will find them and make them available as a background.

JPEGs will automatically be scaled to fill the screen. If a background image is very tall or very wide, some of the image will be cropped off. You can resize the image to fit the screen better using image editing software if you like. If the image is small (less than 2/3 the size of the screen), it will be tiled instead of scaled up to fit the screen.

If your handheld has a built-in camera, you can take a picture of anything and use it as a background. Just save the picture from your camera, start-up AcidSpider and select the picture from the "Select Background..." dialog box.

Note that JPEG background support is only available on handhelds with Palm OS 5 or higher and a color screen.

  • Q: Do I need to upgrade?
A: We release new versions throughout the year as we incorporate user feedback, add new features and update our products to run on new devices. We recommend that everyone upgrade to the latest version. When in doubt, download the current version available.

  • Q: Are upgrades free?
A: Yes. Upgrades are free to registered users. The current AcidSpider version can be installed directly over your old version. It will still work and maintain your statistics.

  • Q: How do I upgrade?
A: Follow the download link on the AcidSpider page to get the latest version. Then, install the latest version on your Palm directly over the old version. Your statistics should remain intact, and you won't need a new UnlockCode.
More information on upgrading is available here.
