AcidSolitaire with CLIE Camera Support! |
 |
 |
Red Mercury won the Sony Camera API Contest at the 2004 PalmSource Conference held in San Jose, California.
Sony's new camera library lets developers access the camera on all models of Sony CLIE. When we heard about this, we immediately thought,
"AcidSolitaire needs camera support!" The camera-enabled version can be downloaded below

Live video from camera during gameplay
The deadline for the contest was at Midnight on Wednesday, February 10th, and since we started working on it at about 9PM that same day, we only had three hours
to get something done. We were pretty happy with the results, it won the whole contest, there was a demo during the closing keynote of the PalmSource
conference, and it was an all-around fun time.

Capture any picture for instant new background
We thought that Sony CLIE owners would be interested in playing around with this special edition of AcidSolitaire. We managed to get
camera support into AcidFreecell as well, so both are available below for download.
Please note: for the camera support to work, you also need to download and install the file "SonyCapLib2.prc" on your CLIE. This little 12k file
installs the standardized camera support on any CLIE with a built-in camera. Without SonyCapLib2.prc installed, AcidSolitaire and AcidFreecell
won't see the camera, and nothing special will happen.
Below we provide a link to the Sony website where you can download the Sony Capture Library files. Scroll to the bottom of that page,
click "Agree" if you agree to everything it says, save the zipfile, open it on your computer, and find "SonyCapLib2.prc" in that zipfile. SonyCapLib2.prc is what you need to install on your device.
Download it all Here
SonyCapLib2.zip (Install SonyCapLib2.prc found within this zipfile)
AcidSolitaire (AcidSolitaireCam.prc)
AcidFreecell (AcidFreeCam.prc)
Have fun!
Once you get the special edition installed along with the SonyCapLib2 file, you can press the Capture button on your CLIE to bring up a preview
window on-screen. If you like, you can play AcidSolitaire or AcidFreecell with the preview window streaming live video to the screen
- see what is going on behind your CLIE while you are playing. You can also twist the camera around and watch
yourself play. Press the capture button again to take a picture. That picture will be automatically be saved to the first VFS volume found,
and then will automatically be made the background image. Go sightseeing, and take a picture of something cool to use as your background.
It's Just an Easter Egg...
Some notes... the picture you take will always be saved to the same filename, which means the last background picture you captured will be
overwritten. The picture will always be saved to the first VFS volume found, and there currently is no way to choose which memory stick to
save the image to on systems with multiple VFS volumes (for example, on the UX-50, the picture will be saved to the internal VFS storage).

Please exercise caution when capturing new backgrounds
Happy Picture Taking!
