16-Bit Color on the PEG-N710C

"If only the new CLIE had a 16-bit color screen..."

well it does.

Sixteen

On this page you can download Sixteen, an application that displays a series of 16-bit color images on the Sony CLIE PEG-N710C screen. This application will run on the Sony CLIE PEG-N710C or PEG-N700C. If it is run on any other device, it will simply show a dialog box and exit. Also, it won't run correctly on the Palm OS Emulator (even the Sony version) - 16 bit color is not supported by the emulator yet.

So what does this mean? Well, it means that the high resolution screen and graphics chip in the PEG-N710C not only supports 320x320 resolution, but also supports 16-bit color. Since the current devices run OS 3.5, there is no support for this mode at the operating system level. But as you can see if you run Sixteen, the support is there in the hardware.

We have no screen shots available... you really need to see it on the device itself. Find somebody with a PEG-N710C, or beam it to a display unit at Best Buy...

Enjoy!
